exmosis.net status update: Static sites are go

Posted under:

One of the lesser joys of properly self-hosting your own websites is that you can be DDoSed by someone unplugging the wrong thing in order to do some hoovering. ahem

Over time, you come to appreciate this fragility more and more. For personal sites, there is something appropriate in the idea that your web presence reflects your own connection, your immediate digital environment. I always loved the idea of running a site off my phone, and the notion of intermittent networks, rather than the “always on” culture that sucks up energy and attention.

Anyway, my own personal circumstances mean that I’m without internet at home for almost two weeks. (Insert suitable screamy+zen emoji here.) Which means a few of my sites need contingency.

6days.exmosis.net, 6work.exmosis.net and drpfd.exmosis.net will therefore be running as static copies until the end of the month, away from the busy-ness of domestic life. Think of it as a holiday for the sites.

Comments won’t work, but the main aim is to keep RSS feeds from being flagged as expired by feed readers and other scripts. Sadly I don’t think the net has got used to the idea of things being offline yet.

Catch you on the flipside.
