Oh, nearly forgot to mention but I’m taking part in an Artists Open House in Brighton this May. (Yes, things have been so busy, too busy to do posts.)
We’re collectively called The Imposter Club and we’re based at The Skiff, my usual co-working space. We’re an eclectic bunch and in most cases art is a passion rather than a day job, but the show has come together well. I think – it can be hard to be impartial when you’re deep down in the tireds and the practicals. But I’ve definitely really enjoyed seeing what everyone has brought to the space.
Between the eight of us, we cover illustrations, 3D- printing, photography, illustrated vibraphones, interactive displays, and a room full of glitch.
I’ve brought together a collection of work coming out of the Sprite Country project, which I’m calling The Fifth Corner. I wanted to play around with making the virtual spaces of videogames into tangible, real-world Things, and have curated a jumble of a family to this end. Origami cranes feature strongly, along with frames being ignored or broken out from. A set of photos, styled with a vintage look and printed on to coarse rag, is inspired by Eugene Atget‘s photos of Paris, and in particular Man Ray”s gathering of them into the book Paris as Gameboard.
I’ll leave reflections on the process and the output for another post – it’s been a long week and it’s worth more cogent thoughts.
In the meantime, we’re open every Saturday and Sunday in May except the final (bank holiday) weekend. You can find more details at The AOH site and a better look via our Instagram thingy.
Maybe see some of you there!
